  • Don’t pass up the chance to try mushroom ice cream at Cowlicks
  • Pass through Van Damme State Park, which offers hiking trails, beach access, and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean

  • Take a relaxing break at Pudding Creek Beach, a picturesque stretch of coastline with driftwood-strewn shores
  • Go whale watching with All Aboard Adventures ( December – April)
  • Kayak Big River, it’s so much fun, beautiful and you get to see so many birds. We even saw a harbor seal
  • Stroll through downtown Fort Bragg and admire the Victorian architecture and shop for unique souvenirs and grab some local coffee
  • Enjoy a seafood lunch or dinner at NOYO Harbor

Just a local 2 cents: Google may suggest taking Highway 20. Dont. It’s windy and curvy. Take Highway 128 instead. Highway 128 gets out to the coast more gently, and passes through interesting places (Anderson Valley, a redwood park along the river, etc.) And when you reach the coast on #128, you have a nice, not too exhausting, drive up Highway 1 to get into Mendocino, instead of popping right out of the mountains onto your destination.
