I have so much I can say about Big Sur, it’s one of those places I will never get tired of visiting and I always find something new and special (especially in the backcountry). Choosing where to stay in this enchanting region can be overwhelming, given the abundance of options. To help you make the most of your Big Sur adventure, I have curated a list of ten exceptional accommodations during your visit to Big Sur.

Understanding Big Sur’s Geography

Before diving into the accommodation options, it’s essential to grasp Big Sur’s layout. The region is divided into several distinct areas, each with its own charm and attractions.

  • North Big Sur: Home to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and the iconic McWay Falls, this area is ideal for those who love hiking and exploring nature. Cities include Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Seaside, Marina and Salinas
  • Central Big Sur: This stretch is characterized by its secluded beaches and luxurious accommodations. Cities include Posts, Lucia, and Gorda. This part of Big Sur is my favorite.
  • South Big Sur: Known for its rugged coastline and proximity to Hearst Castle, this area is perfect for those seeking adventure and history. Cities include San Simeon, Paso Robles and Morro Bay.
